About Omron Shaft Encoder

This encoder converts mechanical rotation into electrical pulse signals to measure position, speed, and direction.

A shaft encoder is mounted on a rotating shaft and generates output signals proportional to the shafts movement. These signals help determine:

• Position (how far it has rotated)
• Speed (how fast it is rotating)
• Direction (clockwise or anticlockwise)

• Inside the encoder, a rotating disc is attached to the shaft
• As the shaft turns, the disc interrupts a light beam (optical type) or magnetic field
• This produces electrical pulses
• The control system counts these pulses to calculate motion
